The 1920s New York cult that venerates the King in Yellow is an eclectic gathering of artists, dreamers, and seekers of forbidden truths. Many were drawn in by the promise of inspiration without limit, the ability to create works of beauty and horror that will outlast mortal life. Others joined out of desperation — to escape obscurity, grief, or the banal cruelty of the world. All found the same truth: devotion to the King in Yellow opens one’s mind to vistas of alien wonder … but it also leaves the soul marked, a thread in a web that stretches between worlds.

The King in Yellow is the patron deity of those who gather in the Pallid Masque Theatre. He rules in the strange, decaying city of Carcosa where twin suns set on a poisoned lake. His influence spreads through whispers, dreams, and the forbidden play that bears his name. His symbol is both a prayer and a poison, and to gaze upon it is to be infected by His dreams. They exist to serve his will through art, beauty, and performance, for it is said that each perfect work draws the world one step closer to heavenly Carcosa. To create for the King is to be blessed. To disappoint him is to vanish, as if swallowed by the Lake of Hali itself.

Thus they have come together to the Pallid Theatre to decide on which three need to be sacrificed to a life in Carcosa as an immortal entertainer for the Lovecraftian deity, the King in Yellow. The cultists will each vote on who will be taken, and who will stay. Some wish to go, some wish to stay, but it is a great honour to go so you can’t simply ask to remain. And among you there are a few that would not please the King in Yellow if they were selected….

And, of course, there are still the usual ceremonies and rituals to conduct before the Grand Offering which will give you time to decide where to place your vote as you must not vote for yourself.

The Cult’s Sacred Rules

• The Performance Must Go On – No matter what happens, show dedication to your work.
• The Curtain Must Not Be Lifted – To lift it is to invite the King’s wrath.
• The Mask Belongs to the Wearer – Do not use the King’s symbols in unworthy or unfinished work.
• The Vote is Final – Those chosen as sacrifices will be given to the King without resistance. You cannot place an item or voting token beside your own name.
• All Art Deserves Flattery – Praise the creations of others, even if you secretly despise them.
