Caduti: Sofia’s July 2023 Perspective

Sofia is a scholar from the Ordo Dracul faction who was reaching her 100th death day and had arranged to have her day hosted at another vampire’s nightclub prior to its big opening. She had decorated the room accordingly with a huge collection of books. When the session began, Sofia stood by the door while Persephone greeted everyone who entered by name and Sofia shook their hands while they gave their congratulations on her reaching a century.

Yet, amid the chatter and merriment, a tempestuous turn soon arrived. Prince Paige swept into the scene, a commanding figure of authority. Prince Paige came in and threatened the Strix (evil vampiric spirit) to vacate the vampire Raven as it had apparently offered to do in the past if asked. The Strix refused and the air grew tense as the Lancea Sanctum called upon incantations, unleashing an exorcism upon the dread being. I watched multiple brethren Dominated to stand against their own allies and the battle grew all the more complex.

Later, and most astonishingly, the mantle of Sheriff was draped upon the shoulders of a new member of the court with immediate effect! Ultimo seemed pleasantly surprised and more than a little confused. His ghoul was a lot more friendly and approachable than most and didn’t seem scared of me even a little bit which allowed for a lot of mischief and conversation.

She was the only one who participated in the Death Day games I had planned (well, her master did a little bit but she did the rest) by completing a variety of tasks similar to dares. She managed to achieve 13 in 25 minutes which was quite an impressive feat! She also provided a tarot reading which revealed that I have been taking on too much work and not delegating enough.

There was later a quick trial where a member of the Ordo Dracul was threatened with execution for making some rather strange vampire embraces that left the vampires looking rather owlish. As she has embraced without permission, the prince had every right to kill her, but decided instead to send her into Van Helsing’s realm to spy on him which seemed, by most accounts, to simply be another form of execution.

Apparently Van Helsing, first depicted in the novel Dracula, truly exists and he doesn’t like vampires very much. Van Helsing is also Persephone’s sire, a fact that she found rather upsetting. I wanted to approach her about it after she yelled that fact into the room but at the time she seemed more annoyed than upset and I didn’t want to be rude to my tarot reader by ending the reading partway through. I shall simply have to reach out to Persephone when she is more available.

People also sang me a traditional Happy Birthday song, but twisted to Death Day, which was rather lovely and I cut the cake. Strangely I felt overwhelmed by all of the attention, where once upon a time I would have enjoyed it, and felt like hiding beneath a table. I endured, however. And what a beautiful cake it was! I’m glad the Flower of Demeter allowed me to eat it.

The Death Day Cake!

All in all, a mostly lovely night except for the violence and potential murder.

Room Decorations

  • Purple Lights pointed at the walls and ceilings to splash the area.
  • Tables spanning an entire wall covered in table cloths and stacks of books (that players could take and keep).
  • A table by the wall with a magnificent Death Day cake and other food that could be eaten by those who took a Flower of Demeter (special in-game food that lets a vampire taste and eat food for a night).
  • A table beside that which contained Lacrima (vampire wine made from the sap of plants fed vampire blood).
  • A ring of chairs decked in black chair covers with red ribbons.
  • A few rings of seats where multiple chairs were pushed together and covered with a table cloth to give the impression of couches.
  • A few lamps with blue lights in the hall.
